At this Grade II* Listed Church in Lytham St Annes we needed to make repairs to the main roof following storm damage. The external maintenance of the Church included:
- Cleaning of gutters: removing moss, leaves, and debris.
- Checking rainwater goods for signs of water leaks, damage and blocked downpipes.
- Identification of missing, cracked, or slipped slates.
- Re-fixing or replacing loose or dislodged slates on the roof to prevent water ingress.
When considering access options, we had 2 issues which restricted access: the lower Aisle roof did not allow direct access to the main roof, and the Lychgate was a double gated access with low head height. The works were short term so did not warrant a scaffold to be erected as this would be as expensive and would require additional security protection.
We therefore used a Spider Access Machine at St John the Divine. This machine was able to access the Church grounds via the Lychgate and offered us access to a few areas around the roof within the day of hire. The reach of the machine enabled us to fix and replace damaged slates, as well as clearing the tower gutter.
As with other Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWP’s) our staff hold IPAF (International Powered Access Federation) certification which is globally recognised qualification that focuses on safe and effective use of MEWPs.
