Blasting works to heritage properties can damage the substrate that causes deterioration if not performed correctly. We undertake façade cleaning to timberwork and building facades using controlled heated water steam systems. Also referred to as DOFF, these leave significantly less mess and less abrasive damage than Sand Blasting.
For example, typical reasons for sympathetic façade cleaning may be to remove paint layers. Moreover, dirt that may accumulate upon the property exterior walls over time.
Some unbreathable paints can trap moisture in the wall which may result in blistering or cracking to the paint surface as it un-bonds from the masonry. This can allow penetration of rainwater behind and continue to cause damage to the substrate.
Cement render causes the same issues and once removed, the masonry will require a thorough clean. The benefit of sympathetic cleaning is removing as much cement as possible without causing further damage to the exposed stone or brick.
This can include graffiti or masonry staining. Our projects include Historic Listed buildings and period properties. Commonly, Memorials and Statues require cleaning as a result of birds and the elements.
It is worth noting that our heated water steam system is fantastic for cutting through dirty and grime on brickwork, sandstone and yorkstone paving without damaging the stone. The step cleaning photo shows the difference and can make pathways much safer.
